‘Carpathian Land: The Land Of Floods And Happiness’
Carpathian territory is a mountain region of western Ukraine, which has suffered natural, physical and moral injuries throughout the history of the country. However, it is important to underline that natural disasters - massive floods is the most common injury of the region which had repeated itself as a major catastrophe three times in the past 100 years. And each time it destroyed homes, villages, cities and even human lives.
The concept of my final project - the photobook arose after my inspirational photographic trip to the location of the latest flood in the summer of 2008. The book contains my photographs from the first trip (in summer), the second trip (in winter), fewer essays and interviews (in Ukrainian and English), and black and white images I have scanned from the National Ukrainian archive which cover the flood of 1969 in the same location. All of these contents combined describe the nature of the true Carpathians – their beautiful souls, that no matter what believe in their own happiness.
