A Different Nature
For writer and critic Walter Benjamin, photography offered the possibility of making visible the "Optical Unconscious", a realm of existence and experience inaccessible to the naked eye.
In these images, the photographic process exposes the optical unconscious of plants and flowers; revealing not just the beauty and delicacy of their internal structures but the very pulse of life itself.
Created in the darkroom, without a camera, the interplay of light, form and colour means that each image is unique and unrepeatable.
