Since the mid nineteenth century the photographic image has been dependent upon, as well as a product of, the industrial technologies of its own production. This exhibition installation is a vending machine of photographic multiples. The viewer is asked to participate through choosing one of ten prepared images. This vending and participatory process results in the hand delivery of their commissioned object a few weeks later. The process involves the exchange of the artists labour for the viewer’s participation in the production process. The process thus asks: How does the object’s technologies of production affect its eventual status – is it a gimmick, a trinket, a commodity, or an art object?
